Sabra Weber is a musican and teacher trained in classical flute performance with a special interest in Cuban and Latin American song and dance from the first half of the 20th century. She holds a Bachelors of Music in flute performance and a Bachelor of Arts in Russian language from the University of Iowa. During her graduate studies in flute performance, Sabra developed a passion for Cuban music and ethnomusicology which subsequently took her to Cuba where she studied under flutists Maestros Richard Egües (Orquesta Aragon), and Orlando Canto (Los Van Van), as well as folkloric Cuban dance with Los Muñequitos de Matanzas and Afrocuba of Matanzas. In the Bay Area, Sabra studied popular and folkoric Cuban music and dance for four years with Maestro Roberto Borrell. She has worked as a programmer and booking coordinator for Northwest Folklife in Seattle and Young Audiences of the Bay Area in San Francisco. Sabra has been a member of Cascada de Flores for 11 years, and is currently director of SONando Santa Barbara, a Latin American cultural arts organization in Santa Barbara, California.
