Originally the name Cascada de Flores ("waterfall of flowers") was invoked as a tribute to the immense variety of Mexican music by celebrating its passion and the diversity of its roots and rhythms.    In 1999 guitarist Jorge Liceaga and vocalist and dancer Arwen Lawrence de Castellanos joined forces to accompany a Mexican regional dance group with live music. Serendipitously the talented flautist and dancer Sabra Weber arrived to complete the trio Cascada de Flores. The natural blend of Arwen and Sabra's voices led the three to explore songs from the flourishing age of duos, the early 1900s, both in Mexico and Cuba.  Passion for these songs and the traditional dance music of both countries has created in Cascada de Flores' repertoire a weave of traditional and popular sounds, which has proven its relevance to an especially diverse audience.  The arrival of Jorge Mijangos further fosters the now quartet's tendency towards improvisation and composition inspired by these old song gems.
